Pink is a common name for a large genus of flowering plants native to Europe and Asia. Few species are native to South and North Africa and one species is native to North America. Most of the species are perennial herbs while a few are annuals or biennials. Leaves are in opposite arrangements and are grayish-green or bluish-green. Flowers are pale to dark pink. One of the species has yellow flower with a purple marking in the center. The color pink is named after the pink flower. The name pink is generally applied to describe pink edges of flower petals.

The plant has stems with swollen joints. Flowers grow in single or double or in clusters. Carnations are the most often cultivated varieties of the species pink. The plants can be grown easily from seeds or cuttings in the common garden soils and proper sunshine. Some of the varieties are self-sowing and can grow for many years in old gardens, which can sometimes escape to roadsides.
