Daisy is a flowering species native to western, central and northern Europe. Daisy has also been naturalized in North America. Common daisy is the widespread European species of daisy. Daisy is an herbaceous plant with short creeping rhizomes and small rounded or spoon-shaped evergreen leaves, which are 2-5 cm long and grow close to ground. Flowerheads are 2-3 cm in diameter with white ray florets and yellow disc florets, which grow on leafless stems that are 2-10 cm tall.

It is commonly that that the name daisy is corruption of ?day’s eye?because the head closes at night and opens in the morning. Daisy is also common name for girls in many countries. Daisy is not affected by mowing and thus it is often considered as a weed on lawns. Many people love the appearance of flowers. Several hybrid varieties have been produced that have much larger flowerheads up to 5-6 diameter and with light pink to purple red ray florets. Due to its astringent properties, it is often used in folk medicines. Daisy has been traditionally used for making daisy chains in children’s games.
