Hyacinth is a genus of bulbous flowering plant. It is a sweet smelling popular garden flower. Hyacinth is a native plant of eastern Mediterranean region east to Iran and Turkmenistan. Netherlands is the chief commercial cultivator of hyacinth and largest exporter of hyacinth bulbs every year to different parts of the world. Three species of hyacinths are grown in the genus hyancinthus. Dutch hyacinth is the common hyacinth of house and garden culture. Water Hyacinth is an altogether different plant from hyacinth. Grape hyacinth is a relatively uncommon variety grown in the United States.

Hyacinth grows from a bulb and bloom every spring with a cluster of bell shaped flowers. Hyacinth plant has clusters of single and double flowered blossoms in various colors like white, pink, blue, purple or yellow. Flowers should be exposed to direct sunlight and should be moderately watered. Hyacinths grow ell in gardens, window boxes and flowerpots. It can also be grown in bowls filled with pebbles and water.
