Eucalyptus is a diverse genus of trees and few shrubs that dominate the tree flora of Australia. Eucalyptus is a tall, hardy and heavily leaved tree that has been successfully cultivated throughout the tropics and subtropics in Europe, India, Middle East, China, Algeria, Egypt, South America and southern United States. Majority of the more than 700 species of Eucalyptus are native to Australia except few found in the adjacent parts of New Guinea and Indonesia. Eucalyptus is a fast growing source of wood and its oil finds immense applications as a cleansing agent and natural insecticide besides its use in many other fields. Eucalyptus is commonly known as water suckers, as they require a great amount of water.

Eucalyptus is divided into different categories as per the habitat and size such as forest trees, woodland trees and shrubs, among others. Eucalyptus has a tall and straight trunk. Leaves are large, green, smooth-edged and unusually striking in its appearance. Leaves are covered with oil glands. Flowers are small, white and ball shaped, which change into a cup shaped fruit filled with tiny seeds. The sizes of Eucalyptus vary depending upon the categories, ranging from 10 meter for small trees to more than 60 meters for very tall trees.

Daffodil is a common flowering plant belonging to botanical family of Narcissus genus. Narcissus and daffodils both the names are commonly used for different species. It is native to Europe, North Africa and Asia. Although most of the species bloom in spring but several species are also known to be growing in autumn. Every year, numerous variations of modified and extended daffodils are cultivated throughout the world. All the Narcissus varieties contain the alkaloid poison lycorine mostly in the bulb and also in the leaves.

Daffodils grow from the bulb. It produces several yellowish small and fragrant flowers on its stem. Seeds are black round and swollen with a hard coat. Leaves are long, narrow and flat. During early spring, yellow or white blossoms with trumpets in the center appear on the daffodils. Color of trumpet can be white, yellow, orange, brilliant red or pink. Depending upon the species, climate, soil conditions and depth of planting, time of blossoming may vary however; most species bloom in April or May. In traditional Japanese herbal medicines, wounds are treated with the roots of daffodils mixed with wheat flour paste.

Fennel is a hardy, perennial and aromatic plant in the family of parsley. Fennel is considered as indigenous to the shores of the Mediterranean and also widely naturalized in the areas colonized by Romans. Owing to its aromatic and flavorful properties, Fennel is widely used all over the world for culinary and medicinal applications. It is the primary ingredient of absinthe, distilled and highly alcoholic beverage. Swollen bulb like stem base of Florence fennel or Finocchio (Italian) is used as a vegetable. Fennel is an erect, perennial and green shrub that grows up to a height of 2.5 meters and has a hollow stem. Leaves are 0.5 mm wide and grow to a length of 40 cm. Flowers are 5-15 cm wide. Fruit is a grooved dry seed 4-10 mm long and 2-5 mm wide. Strongly flavored leaves and seeds of Fennel are edible.

Hyacinth is a genus of bulbous flowering plant. It is a sweet smelling popular garden flower. Hyacinth is a native plant of eastern Mediterranean region east to Iran and Turkmenistan. Netherlands is the chief commercial cultivator of hyacinth and largest exporter of hyacinth bulbs every year to different parts of the world. Three species of hyacinths are grown in the genus hyancinthus. Dutch hyacinth is the common hyacinth of house and garden culture. Water Hyacinth is an altogether different plant from hyacinth. Grape hyacinth is a relatively uncommon variety grown in the United States.

Hyacinth grows from a bulb and bloom every spring with a cluster of bell shaped flowers. Hyacinth plant has clusters of single and double flowered blossoms in various colors like white, pink, blue, purple or yellow. Flowers should be exposed to direct sunlight and should be moderately watered. Hyacinths grow ell in gardens, window boxes and flowerpots. It can also be grown in bowls filled with pebbles and water.

Irises are a perennial shrubs growing from creeping rhizomes or from bulbs in drier climate. Irises have long, erect and flowering stems, which may be simple or branched, solid or hollow and flattened or with a circular cross section. They have flat upright leaves with three brightly colored and drooping sepals and three inner petals, which stand upright in some of the species. Bulbous species have cylindrical basal leaves. Iris fruit is in the shape of a capsule that has numerous seeds. Irises are grown as ornamental plants in home or botanical gardens. Florence, Italy has the most famous and largest Iris garden and museum and holds most famous Iris Breeders competition every year.

Flowers are delicate and open only at night during the full moon. Jasmine flowers are plucked in the morning when the tiny petals are tightly closed and then they are stored in a cool place until late evening. As the temperature cools, the petals begin to open. Due to its wonderful fragrance, Jasmines are used in perfumes and incense. Jasmine flowers are also widely used to make tea. Chinese people consume Jasmine Flower Tea. Jasmine is the national flowers for many countries including Philippines, Syria, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, Thailand and Japan.

Cashew is a tree in the flowering plant family that is widely grown in the tropical regions for its cashew nuts and cashew apples. Cashew is native to Central America in southeastern Brazil. Cashew is a small evergreen tree that can grow to about 10-12 meter height. Its trunk is short and often irregularly shaped. Leaves are large, spirally arranged, leathery and green, measuring about 4-6 inches long and 4 inches wide. Cashew produces an oval or pear shaped fruit. It is an accessory fruit or a false fruit that develops from the receptacle of the flower. Better known as cashew apple, the fruit ripens into a pale yellow and/or red structure about 5-10 cm long. Fruits are edible and have a strong sweet smell and sweet taste. Pulp of the cashew apple is juicy but the skin is fragile and thus cannot be transported without damaging the fruit. A true fruit of cashew is a kidney or bean shaped fruit that grows at the end of the false fruit ? cashew apple. Within this true fruit lies the seed or cashew nut. In botanical sense, the cashew nut is a seed.

It is often pickled in vinegar or sherry as a tasty snack. Ginger is used as the most favorite flavor in making tea beverage.

Bougainvillea is a flowering plant native to South American countries from Brazil west to Peru and from south to southern Argentina. As per different botanists, there can be four to eighteen species of Bougainvillea genus. The name Bougainvillea comes from the name of an Admiral in French Navy who discovered the plant in Brazil. Bougainvillea is normally used as ornamental plants in most of the regions with warm climates. They can be found at many countries like India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, and the Mediterranean region, the Caribbean, Mexico, South Africa and United States of America in Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii and southern Texas.

Bougainvillea grows to a height of more than 3 meters (10 feet) and up to a height of about 12 meters with thorny and woody vines. Leaves are alternate measuring about 4-13 cm long and 2-6 cm broad. Small white flowers surrounded by large and colorful bracts of red, purple, pink, orange or pale yellow grow on the plant. Flowers grow in the clusters of three enclosed by 3-6 bracts. Bracts are papery and thin and thus sometimes the flowers are called ‘Paper Flowers’. Several cultivars and hybrid plants in thorn-less varieties have been cultivated all over the world. Bougainvilleas are rapid growing and all-year flowering plants.

Asparagus is a perennial plant that can grow up to 100-150 cm tall with stout stems and branched feathery foliage. Needle like leaves are 6-30 mm long and 1 mm broad. Leaves are clustered in a group of 5-15. Bell shaped flowers are greenish-white to yellowish in color, 4.5-6.5 mm long and with six petals partially fused together at the base. Flowers come singly or in clusters of 2-3 at the junctions of the branches. Fruits are small red berry in a diameter of 6-10 mm. Green asparagus is used for eating all over the world, with eggs in China and with beef in Britain. Green asparagus is not considered as a delicacy as it is cheap and easy to obtain unlike white asparagus that are popular yet expensive. Nicknamed as white gold, white asparagus is a seasonal delicacy in May-June in northwestern Europe.
